Need an innovative and unique fundraiser for your cause? Consider hosting your own spin on the popular “Antiques Roadshow” to raise money for your group! Instead of a the usual version, though, specify a particular type of entry, one that evokes a memory of simpler times. For instance, try a folk art show, farm tool show, or a kitchen utensil show…use your imagination!
- Decide on a time/place
- Find a local appraiser who will work for a small fee…or even better, one who will volunteer their time!
- Advertise to the local community. Put specifics in place, such as size, amount, etc…
- Charge an entry fee per item.
- Have the appraiser use a microphone so that all can see/hear what is on display
- Host a snack bar or bake sale to raise addtional funds.
This could really be a fun time, especially in a close-knit community where many families have resided together for many years. There are usually fun stories with each piece!
