Here is a creative fundraising idea that does not involve “funds”! Many people love to read, and lots of retirement homes, youth centers and hospitals are on the look out for current bestsellers. Consider hosting a current book exchange. Ask everyone to bring 2 (or more) current bestsellers. Place the books on display, and have attendees pick a number. According to what number they choose, let every person pick 1 book to take home. The remainder of the books can be donated to a library, retirement home, or youth community center.
If you want to raise money with this idea, consider raffling off some of the books, having a silent auction for some book related items, or having a free-will offering for the refreshments served.
