• For the Expectant mother – Find a container that can be used for a child’s items. Add small sized diapers, diaper crème, burp cloths, teething toys, and other items necessary for a newborn.
• For the Girly Girl – Put together a pampering basket.  Find a pretty container, and add bath salts, pedicure items, a pretty and classic red nail polish, lotions, etc…
• For the dog lover – Find a large, stainless steel dog bowl, and put in a pet hair lint roller, gourmet dog treats, I love my dog magnets or picture frames, coffee mugs etc…make sure what you add are items that any dog lover would like.
• For the Car Lover – Find a galvanized steel container or an even a 5 gallon bucket.  Add a classic car magazine, car wash supplies, chamois cloths, or anything else a car aficionado would like.

Recently, my family and I wanted to go out of town, but as we have pets…1 a dog that has no idea she’s a dog… we were forced to inconvenience my parents by asking them to come stay at our house.  There are several pet sitting services in our area, but they are all very expensive.  Many peoples budgets simply can’t handle the cost of a service plus a get-away.

Ask for volunteers from your teen youth group or sports team.  MAKE SURE THEY ARE RELIABLE!!  They will be going into peoples homes, so they MUST be trustworthy.

Consider a price per visit, or even consider simply asking that a donation be given.  Depending on participation, sometimes a donation will raise the most money.  Print a list of services and considerations such as: Do you want to charge per day, or by number of trips to check on pets welfare…how about overnight costs,  prices for walking, brushing, or even bathing.

Distribute flyers wherever possible.  Consider asking groomers and vets if they would allow you to post literature to support your cause.

Due to the fact that minors will be involved, make sure to obtain parental consent and/or participation.  Many people look at their pets as family members, so be aware of that fact and choose volunteers wisely:-)

You can find cellophane bags with paw prints or bones at the local craft store. Your group can make the treats at home or find a church or school that will donate their kitchen for the day. You will be able to make more treats with more people helping.  All ingredients should be easily found at your local grocery store.

Keep in mind to stay away from using chocolate or raisins as they can be poisonous to dogs.

Your group could either take pre-orders or set up your dog bakery at a craft sale or sporting event.

Your doggy treat fundraiser would match up well with a number of other animal-friendly fundraisers.

Do a little research to see what other schools or organizations are charging for similar workshops before you set your price. If you don’t have space to hold the workshop, look to a library, church or school that does have meeting space. Provide handouts and serve refreshments to make the workshop more enjoyable. Work with other organizations and donors to get as much donated as possible to run the workshop. This will increase your profit potential. Publicize the event well and take advance registrations to aid in the planning.

Take notes of what went well and what didn’t so you can easily duplicate this fundraiser for even more success.

• Gather donations of gentle-used leashes, collars, food bowls, toys, sweaters, etc.
• Arrange for a couple demonstrations from pet trainers or grooming specialists.
• Contact a local pet food store to provide samples of treats.
• Set prices for all items donated for sale.
• Advertise at local pet stores, animal shelters, veterinary offices and in the local paper.

This is the perfect fundraiser for an animal shelter and could even be run as a volunteer project by a girl/boy scout troop or another youth group.

Arrange for your location. The accomodations should be sparce, yet sufficient to not endanger those being locked-in. Set a goal for the amount you want to raise. Be sure to get enough advance publicity. Enlist the help of support persons to collect pledges and donations, talk to the media, provide security and run for food and water for those locked-in.

Purchase t-shirts in various sizes and pastel colors, non-toxic (pet safe!) ink or fabric paint.  Also, it is important to purchase cardboard t-shirt forms to use inside the shirt to prevent the paint soaking through to the back of shirt. These items are available at craft stores, or discount stores.

Have the pet owner place their pet’s paw carefully on the ink pad, or use a soft paintbrush dipped in fabric paint and gently cover the pads on the pets foot. Then transfer this print to the t-shirt. Be sure to offer wet wipes to quickly remove the paint!

You may offer to use alphabet letter stamps to add the pet’s name (for additional charge).  Be creative and let the owners have fun with this idea and offer suggestions.  Additionally, very small pets may walk across the t-shirts – making a little trail!

This fundraiser will be very effective if combined with other pet fundraisers such as a pet parade or a pet beauty contest.  Make sure to spread the word!

Make professional prints using the animals paws. The prints can be done on canvas and professionally matted and framed.  A bio of the animal artist and a photo of the animal can be provided in a smaller frame that will accompany the artwork when sold. The paw paintings can be sold for different prices depending on the size of the artwork.

• Have contestants submit photos of their pets
• The contest is “judged” by number of votes received for the most “beautiful” pet
• Each vote costs $1, and everyone can vote as often as they wish. Keep a careful tally of votes received
• The pet with the most votes wins a gift basket of pet treats & toys. This can be put together inexpensively by purchasing prize items at dollar-type and discount stores

Additional categories can be created –such as “Looks Most like Owner”, “Most Interesting”, or if the photo shows activity, “Most Talented”.  This will allow more pets an honorable mention (and small prize).  Make sure to advertise your contest in local papers and pass out flyers!
