It’s a good idea to think about fundraising opportunities for your group throughout the summer. How about a dodgeball tournament? Dodgeball is a fun game to play AND to watch, so this can really be a great opportunity for your group! (Note: if it’s been a long time since your playground days, the object is pretty simple. Players face off and try to hit each other with a large rubber ball. Last man or woman standing wins! You can also play with teams, and the last player standing wins it for his/her team)
- Secure a location. A beach, park or a school will work great!
- Decide on a list of rules. For instance, is it against your rules to throw at a persons face, or are you still out even if you catch the ball…
- Decide what to charge as an entrance fee. You can charge as a team, or as individuals. Individuals may be easiest because if you play as a team, you will need to provide each team member of the winning team with a prize.
- Ask local business owners if they would be willing to donate a gift card or merchandise for the winner(s) in exchange for free “advertising”.
- Consider selling concessions as an added way to earn money. Solicit donations for a bake sale, or rent a popcorn machine.
- Advertise! This can be a lot of fun, so make sure to capitalize on that fact!
