Every kid wants a place of their own – often a fort or play house in the backyard. However, most parents don’t have the time (or the skill) to build their own play structure. Of course, they could go out and purchase a Little Tykes or Step 2 model, but that would set them back $200 – $400 for the large pieces of colorful plastic to adorn their backyard.
With this creative fundraiser, custom play houses are built by local craftsmen and then auctioned off to raise money for your cause.
Contact local construction companies to see if they would be willing to build a play house. By sponsoring the construction of the play house, the company will receive publicity for their generosity. Make sure to do a big publicity campaign including: newspaper, radio, posters around town, and flyers sent home with school children. Some grocery stores and banks will also hand out flyers alerting their customers to your fundraiser. Publicize the raffle for 6 – 8 weeks to get the most out of your fundraising campaign.
Decide if you are going to limit the number of raffle tickets available (some people like this because it can increase their odds) or if you will sell an unlimited number of tickets. Typically, if you limit the number of tickets you can sell them for a higher price.
On the day of the raffle drawing, plan some festivities so people will come out to support your cause – food, bouncey houses, face-painters can all draw a crowd. Tye a ribbon around the house and let the winner cut it to announce the official grand opening of the play house.
