Treasure or Turkey Fundraiser

This creative fundraiser will work any place where there is a gathering of people. For example, hold it during half-time at a high school game.

Let people’s curiosity help you raise money for your cause, after all curiosity killed the cat.

Have your group bring a wrapped package, big or small, to the auction. They can place anything they want in the box from tickets to the game (perhaps weighted down or wrapped in a huge box) or the wedding gift that was not quite right (a dreadful thing really).

As each box is brought in, label it with a number and place on tables that have been set up. People should be allowed to examine the boxes, picking them up and shaking them. NO PEAKING!

You can either run a silent auction or have a live auctioneer. In a silent auction, people would write down their bids on a piece of paper kept near the box and try to outbid each other.

Make sure you have a few really great items that have been donated by local stores or memorabilia to keep bidding high. Let each winner open their box in front of everyone to show off if they got a great treasure or a turkey.

Silent Auction Fundraiser

“Actions speak louder than words.” How true! In this case, the silence will be worth gold in this easy fundraising idea. Set up a display (or flyer) with certain goods, preferably donated for the cause. Gift baskets, services, tickets, or other desirable items are all popular choices. Have a wide range to encourage higher bids. Call local businesses for a possible donation. Point out that it can increase business and may be tax-deductible.

In a silent auction, bids are written on a sheet of paper. The auction is “silent” because there is no auctioneer. Have the pages in front of the item for auction or at least a photo, and an attendant at each table. At the end of the appointed auction, the highest bidder wins the item!

Make sure to publicize this event in the local papers & pass out flyers advertising which cause you are supporting.

Re-Decorating Fundraiser

Here is a unique fundraising idea from Ragged Edge Coffee House in Gettysburg:

With the coffee house being redecorated, the owners and staff came up with the idea of auctioning off the handpainted café-type tables that have been used for several years. The proceeds they raised benefited an addiction recovery house in their area.

This idea can be adapted to any community…for instance, is a local hotel re-decorating? If so, why not approach them with a deal. Your group can offer to help with the demo and haul-out in exchange for the old furnishings. Or, you can offer to list them on craigslist in exchange for a portion of the proceeds. Be creative and keep your ears open to any local businesses who may be making decorating changes.

Chair Auction Fundraiser

I’ve seen this artistic fundraiser done for different events. Basically, you pick the item that will be decorated for the fundraiser (chair, stool, picture frame, fiberglass animal, etc). Then you find local businesses to sponsor the chosen item. The company can either decorate it themselves or sponsor an artist to decorate it. The items are on display in a public area for a month or two to generate excitement (and a bit of competition). Then the whole event is wrapped up with a charity auction where the public can bid on the items to take home.
