Baskets for Bucks – Creative Youth Sports Fundraising Idea

Many youth sports groups (and individual athletes) need to raise funds for their groups or to attend a sports camp, etc…. Why not ask the community to support the team or athlete by organizing an event. For instance, if its a basketball team, host a “Baskets for Bucks” night. Have each team member line up their own list of sponsors for each basket they make in a set time frame. Give each team member 1 minute to make as many baskets as they can. Make it a fun time by inviting the community, and play some fun, energetic music. Consider having each athlete choose their own song to make it more individulaized. You can even host a snack bar to raise more funds for your group.

This fundraiser can work for a variety of groups. Consider: Birdies for Bucks, Goals for Cash, Hits for a Cause, etc… Use your imagination!

Basketball Bracket Fundraiser

Cash in on the tournament excitement by coordinating a basketball tournament pool. Charge an entry fee per person and decide on the percent of payout. Let folks now that the rest of the money raised is a fundraiser for your organization.

You can find bracket templates here to fill use. Set a deadline for entry and post status updates regularly throughout the tournament.

Here’s a creative fundraising idea to get the whole community involved in a school fundraiser. Gather pledges for each touchdown scored during the season by the high school football team. The same can be done for soccer goals, 3-point shots in basketball, or home runs in baseball.

Make sure that you communicate the charity or fundraising goal that you’re working to support. Have each player collect pledges throughout the community and provide the donors with a game schedule so they can follow along with your team throughout the season. Keep an online blog of the team’s success and a thermometer showing how much has been pledged along the way. Collect the money at the end of the season. Follow-up each donation with a thank you to the donor.

At half time during a basketball game, offer to let people shoot 3 baskets for $1. If a person gets 3 in a row, have a small prize for them to take home or offer an item free at the snack shack!
