Trunk or Treat Fundraising

Make a change on the typical Trick or Treat celebration and hold a Trunk or Treat event to help replenish the shelves at your local food pantry in this creative fundraising idea.

Arrange for use of a parking lot that gets a lot of visibility and traffic. (Think grocery store, mall parking lot, football stadium.)
Sign up participants ahead of time to collect food donations in the trunks of their cars. Encourage school and church groups to put together a team to participate. Local businesses can also get in on the fun and challenge their local competitors.
Encourage the participants to decorate their trunks.
Have celebrity judges vote for the best decorated trunk.
Supporters can “vote” for the best decorated trunk by placing non-perishable food items in the trunk of their choice.
Set up a donation box for those that perfer to give a monetary donation instead.
Have music, games, prizes, and trick or treat candy to hand out.
Sell food and beverages for those that come to parcipate and volunteer for the event. Proceeds of refreshment sales can also be donated to the food pantry.
Get the local media to come out and cover the event.

Help Your Neighbor – Not for Profit Fundraiser

With the current state of if the economy, many local families are desperate to put food on the table. Be the one to help fill the fridge of a family in need. Ask the local food pantry if they could deliver to a family that they know has a greater need than some others. Additionally, ask if they are willing to share a few details while still keeping it anonymous such as; job loss, illness, etc. Get the word out to your friends, family & co-workers that you are collecting for a specific family in need/crisis. Many people will feel more compelled to give if they feel connected. So, share a few details while still respecting the privacy of the family. Deliver the goods and or funds to the pantry. You will never know who you helped, but you can feel good about the fact that you DID help.

Get to Know Your Neighbor

In these busy times, where we no longer set aside time to get you know your neighbors, consider this neighborly fundraising idea. During the summer months people cookout and enjoy the weather, why not combine these activities and get to know your neighbors on your street, block, cul-du-sac, and do a little fundraising too.

Invite your neighbors for a “cookout and get to know you afternoon”, with everyone bringing not only a dish to pass, but a donation to your local food pantry. You get to have a fun afternoon learning more about your neighbors and also help your local food pantry at the same time.

You could do this with co-workers, church members, or other organizations that you belong too.

Host a CANstruction® Event

This incredibly creative fundraising idea involves, architects and engineers competing to see whose team can build the most spectacular structure using little more than cans of food at Canstruction® Competitions throughout the U.S.

After the competition exhibit closes, all food is donated to local food pantries.

Bag-O-Groceries Fundraiser

This fundraising idea is to buy food staple items in bulk (flour, sugar, toothpaste, soap, etc) or accept donations. Bag the items (about 5 per bag) and sale each bag for $5.00 – $10.00. You can set up a table at a ball game, carwash, yard sale or if allowed, outside of a grocery store. You can donate leftovers to a homeless shelter or church pantry.

Family Skate Party

Appealing to the many children with nothing to do over winter break, the Orleans United Coalition and Medina Area Association of Churches held a free family roller skating event on Monday. More than 180 children and adults attended the afternoon skate at the Lake Plains YMCA in Medina.

As part of the coalition, it is important to hold activities where young people are in the community, but are in a safe place and not on the streets, Smith said.

Besides being an enjoyable event, the family roller skate raised $58 in donations and 131 cans of food, to benefit MAAC’s food pantry.
