Create a fundraiser and lesson plan in one – Plant a vegetable and flower garden on your school property.

Allow teachers to use the garden in their lesson plans, getting kids involved in the prep work, planting, maintenance, and harvest of the produce. This provides great curriculum for a summer school session.

Sell the produce each week to parents and community members. Consider selling shares of the garden produce on a prepaid basis. This will provide the funds upfront needed to start the garden. Then each week divide your produce among the number of shares.

If you have enough space, plant some pumpkin seeds in the spring and harvest the pumpkins in the fall. Allow kids to pick their own pumpkin for a donation to the school.

This is a great idea for a youth group or school to learn about gardening and do some fundraising. Create a vegetable garden or flower garden and use your harvest for something meaningful. For a vegetable garden, you can use your harvest to create jars of salsa or homemade soup to sell. For a flower garden, you can sell fresh cut flowers to families, neighbors, etc. or even at your local farmer’s market. Have your group use the proceeds to benefit their charity of choice.

Instead of fundraising for a community garden, consider soliciting requests for the specific items and manpower needed.

Request Plant, Seed, & Soil donations for church/ school.

Gardening Supplies can be loaned or donated.

Use hardy, easy-care plants in a mix of annuals (bloom all season) and perennials (come back year after year). Mulching is helpful to reduce watering & weeding.

Set up Pledges for Manpower to establish Garden Plot -possibly in 30 minute intervals, and ongoing pledges of weeding & tending.
