The National Arbor Day Foundation offers non-profits a fundraising program with their Gift Trees.

Groups can choose from a variety of tree species which are then packaged for shipping with instructions for proper planting.

Minimum order size is 25 trees at a cost of $3 each. Suggested selling price is $6 each. With this pricing structure, the Arbor Day Foundation receives $3 to support their programs and your organization receives $3 towards your fundraising goal.

Hold a Workshop Fundraiser

Survey your staff and members for special skills have or hobbies they excel at. Then, create a workshop or class teaching others these skills or hobbies. The ideas are endless. Here are just a few to get you thinking:

Organic Gardening
Dog Training
Using Computers
Taking Great Photographs
Kayaking
Cake Decorating
Quilting
Creative Writing
Web Design

Do a little research to see what other schools or organizations are charging for similar workshops before you set your price. If you don’t have space to hold the workshop, look to a library, church or school that does have meeting space. Provide handouts and serve refreshments to make the workshop more enjoyable. Work with other organizations and donors to get as much donated as possible to run the workshop. This will increase your profit potential. Publicize the event well and take advance registrations to aid in the planning.

In our later years, it gets harder to get some things done that need doing –especially when it comes to yard work. The summer heat is too daunting, the autumn breezes blow a little too hard… spring rains can lead to a bad fall…

A very worthwhile environmental fundraiser is Senior Yard Care.

Set a price per hour or per job for typical yard projects. Gather a group of individuals, some rakes, gloves, wheelbarrows, and set aside a few afternoons or evenings to get the jobs done. Consider selling gift certifictes as part of your fundraiser so people can purchase your services and give the gift to be used by someone else.

Community-based Beautification Project

Instead of fundraising for a community garden, consider soliciting requests for the specific items and manpower needed.

Request Plant, Seed, & Soil donations for church/ school.

Gardening Supplies can be loaned or donated.

Use hardy, easy-care plants in a mix of annuals (bloom all season) and perennials (come back year after year). Mulching is helpful to reduce watering & weeding.

Set up Pledges for Manpower to establish Garden Plot -possibly in 30 minute intervals, and ongoing pledges of weeding & tending.
