Just in case you need a cake walk refresher course, the object is to have your number called and be a lucky winner.  This can be accomplished in many ways, but I think the easiest is to write numbers on squares of paper, and tape them in a large (15 feet across) circle on the floor.  Make sure that you do not have more than 1 person per paper square.  Play music and encourage people to dance and go around the circle.  After a minute or so, stop the music, make sure everyone has found a number, and pick a corresponding number out of a box.  Call the number, and the person who is standing on that number wins a cake!  If you have many donations, you can call more than 1 number at a time.

Really, this couldn’t be more simple! Just ask for volunteers to make some goodies, and have this walk before a big game….or better yet, why not ask if it can be half time fun? Charge a dollar a ticket, and keep everyone dancing!

• Enlist the help of a few stylists and barbers who are willing to donate their time.
• Secure a location for all the stylists to come together or arrange for the cuts to happen at their place of business.
• Set a flat rate price for each cut with the proceeds going to your organization.
• Decide on whether you’ll take appointments or take walk-in traffic only.
• Have additional services or activities setup to keep people occupied while they wait. Examples include chair massages, hand massages, manicures, food and beverages, music or entertainment.

• Solicit vocalists and musicians to perform a song for your organization’s own customized CD.
• Enlist the help of someone who knows how to capture a good recording of each performance.
• Have a group create the artwork for the CD label and packaging.
• Sell copies of the CD at other events around town or make the songs downloadable from your website.

By enlisting a variety of people, you will build a larger target audience for your finished product. Every parent, grandpartent, aunt, uncle, and friend will want a copy of their loved one performing.

If your group has a specific mission, try writing an original song that speaks to your cause. The music will be that much more meaningful.
