This can be such a fun way to raise awareness for your cause and raise funds. Here is how it works:
- Get an old (clean!) toilet and paint/decorate it as you wish. Ours was painted purple and had “Flush Cancer” spelled on it.
- Place the toilet in a neighbor’s yard with a note (preferably in a waterproof envelope). At a minimum, the note should include your phone number, a description of your cause and how they can donate. Our campaign “charged” $10 for toilet removal, another $10 for the opportunity to pick the next recipient and another $10 for insurance that it wouldn’t be returned to them. Of course, you’ll want to make it clear that a donation isn’t required so you don’t upset anyone. I also recommend a “deadline” (24-48 hours) so you can keep the process moving. More yards = more opportunities for donations!
- Wait for the call, collect your donation and move the toilet to the next “lucky” recipient.
