For a twist on the traditional formal event, throw a “non-party” where you ask people to not attend in this creative fundraising idea. So many people are overbooked that another evening event is just not something they look forward to. Others don’t like the hassle and expense of attending black tie fundraisers. Give them the option of supporting your organization while not requiring them to invest a lot of time or even more money.
- Come up with a theme – mardi-gras, black tie, oscar night, etc.
- Select a date and time.
- Send out formal invitations and RSVP cards.
- The card should indicate how many people are “not coming” and the cost per seat.
- Provide a envelope for people to send back their RSVP card and their check.
- After the event, send a thank you note for the donation and letting people know how much fun they had not coming.

Just saw that the Queens Museum of Art ran a Non-Gala this year instead of their traditional dinner and dancing event. They did it all online, including an auction. Read more about their event here – http://qmanongala.wordpress.com/.
