Throw a “Non-Party” Party

For a twist on the traditional formal event, throw a “non-party” where you ask people to not attend in this . So many people are overbooked that another evening event is just not something they look forward to. Others don’t like the hassle and expense of attending black tie . Give them the option of supporting your organization while not requiring them to invest a lot of time or even more money.

  • Come up with a theme – mardi-gras, black tie, oscar night, etc.
  • Select a date and time.
  • Send out formal invitations and RSVP cards.
  • The card should indicate how many people are “not coming” and the cost per seat.
  • Provide a envelope for people to send back their RSVP card and their check.
  • After the event, send a thank you note for the donation and letting people know how much fun they had not coming.

Just saw that the Queens Museum of Art ran a Non-Gala this year instead of their traditional dinner and dancing event. They did it all online, including an auction. Read more about their event here – http://qmanongala.wordpress.com/.
