Most fundraisers are focused on — you guessed it — raising funds. Timebanking is another approach your organization should consider. With timebanking, the members of your organization can offer their time to a wide variety of other organizations and individuals and can “redeem” the timedollars earned for other services or possibly even goods. Here are some examples:
- A group of middle school kids spends a Saturday raking leaves in the neighborhood. In exchange, the school PTO redeems time dollars for child care during monthly meetings.
- A pet rescue organization offers obedience classes in exchange for time dollars. The same organizations offers time dollars in exchange for needed pet supplies.
- A community organization provides space and resume writing workshops for time dollars. They use those time dollars for someone to staff their phone bank.
It’s just a different way of thinking about what you need and how you can get it. Timebanking will put you in touch with a wide variety of community members with talents and goods that you can use. Click here to find a timebank in your area.
